Figure 1 shows the format for an IPv4 address, which is eight sets of four hexadecimal values separated by colons. A set of four hexadecimal values is called a hextet. Figure 2 is a table listing the decimal and binary equivalents of the 16 hexadecimal digits. Figure 3 lists example IPv6 addresses in the preferred format. The preferred format of listing all 32 hexadecimal digits, each hextet separated by a colon. For example, 2001:0DB8:0000:1111:0000:0000:0000:0200.
