It's time to put some of those theories into practice. Now, if you already have an idea then do this exercise with your idea. If you don't have an app idea then you can go to step zero and choose one. You can use the playsheet we've made to jot down your ideas.
Step 0 - Come up with an idea
If you don't have an app idea handy then you can head over to the App Store and pick a pre-existing app from one of these categories:
Step 1 - Figure out how you will validate your idea
Have a look at the Idea validation module and think about all the ways in which you can figure out if you're on to a winner of an app idea. Pick a few methods that you can use to test and see if anyone will buy your end product.
If you have your own app idea already. Go ahead, try it out. Build a Facebook ad and give it a spin with a nominal budget. The important thing is to compare the number of people who saw your ad, vs. how many people signed up with their email and then how many went on to press the buy button.
Step 2 - Figure out your monetisation model
Revisit the monetisation module and see which model best fits your app idea. Come up with several and narrow then down.
Step 3 - How are you going to find your 1000 true fans?
What are the ways that you can find your initial customers for your app? Where do they hangout? Online or offline? Which social media platform best suits the niche of your app?
Step 4 - What's your story?
How are you going to pitch a journalist to write about your app? What's your founding story? What's special about your app? What angle will you pitch? Who are the relevant journalists or bloggers?
Step 5 - What can you split test?
How are you going to use data to back up your assertions? What can you A/B split test to improve upon?
Step 6 - What are your keywords?
What are you going to try and rank for? What are your early, mid and late stage keywords? What's their competitiveness and traffic? How many potential customers can you get if you ranked for those words?
